Re: Rainbow laces

Should just point out for the sake of clarity that the coloured laces thing is not a campaign as such and neither does it have the endorsement of the football authorities. It is merely a publicity stunt by a well-known betting company (I won't name them because: 1. The Football League is sponsored b...

The attendance for the Manchester City game was 816 and the Chris Banks match v Aston Villa was on 25th April 2000 (crowd was 3,009 and we lost 6-1).

Re: One for the statto's

I am indebted to Leo for pulling me up on the Newport County situation. In 1996-97 they were still called Newport AFC, although this is the same club that has now re-adopted the 'County' suffix. In the 1990s we played them in the Southern League, Southern League Cup and County Cup (they were allowed...

Re: One for the statto's

I knew someone would ask about Aston Villa :) . Admittedly they are a bit obscure but: April 26th 1934 Aston Villa 5, Cheltenham Town 1 (Leamington Hospital Cup final) at Leamington April 24th 1935 Cheltenham Town 1, Aston Villa 0 (Leamington Hospital Cup semi-final) at Whaddon Road March 15th 1936 ...

Re: One for the statto's

We have played 78 of the current 92 in competitive matches either home or away, league or non-league (including cups). We played the re-formed Newport County (under that name) in the Southern League during 1996-97. The only teams we have yet to play are: Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal,...

Re: Cheltenham Town v Plymouth Argyle, JPT

Jermaine had a small ice pack but the real reason he sat out the penalties was because Plymouth had a man sent off. When it comes to a shoot-out, if one team has more players on the field at the end than the other they have to nominate someone to step out of the penalties. The logic behind this is t...

Re: Wham coach tickets

If you are going A40 beware of Oxford. After around 4pm the traffic can build up as you reach the ring road. Surprisingly the Boleyn Ground is only 103 miles from Cheltenham (according to the AA Routeplanner) but it involves a lot of urban driving in traffic. Also, please take a note of George Dixon...

Re: Terrible sad news

Heartfelt condolences also from everyone at CTFC - a big supporter of the club has been lost. In response to the question earlier in the thread, both the ground and the training ground have defibrilators. The first aid room is situated in the corner of the ground between the Main Stand and the LMI S...

Football League/FA rules require a club to continue paying a player in order to retain the right to claim a compensation fee. As always, the level of the compensation depends upon many things including how many clubs are interested, the level of the offers and the salary offers to the player. Tribun...

Re: non junior robins

Children will be able to join the Junior Robins on the day of the game. There will be a simple form to fill in so best not to arrive too close to kick-off but the idea is to make it as easy as possible.

Re: Random question

The longest player contract we've ever done is three years but we haven't done one of those for a while. Both Michael Townsend and John Finnigan had three year contracts but were forced to miss long spells through injury. Since then the most we have done is two and a half years.

Re: Random question

Thankfully we don't, according to my notes Paul Bloomfield was transferred in a player exchange valued at £3,000. Bobby Gould was indeed less than a year - 270 days.

Re: Random question

The shortest would have been John Murphy's ill-fated return in November 1990 which lasted a grand total of 30 days. However, John had a successful five years in the 1980s so, again, you could argue that this doesn't count. After that the next shortest is Tommy Cavanagh, who was sacked after 190 days...

Re: Random question

Tricky one because it can be answered three ways. Jimmy Brain was technically in charge for over 10 years, although this included World War Two when we played no matches between 1940 and 1945. He totalled around six years of active football. Arch Anderson did eight years in charge but this was in tw...

Re: open email to the directors of CTFC

Nothing has changed. We had a friendly lined up against another Football League club for July 20 but they pulled out so we arranged one with Gloucester City instead. Gloucester are entitled to two home pre-season friendlies under the terms of the groundshare agreement. However, this season (as in 20...

Re: Our New Badge/Logo - 3 years on

In the late 70s and early 80s we had a chubby Robin sitting on a ball and in the late 80s and early 90s it was developed into a Robin on a bouncing ball. One of these days I will get round to producing a schedule of all our old kits because that site is not very accurate when it comes to ours.

Re: Our New Badge/Logo - 3 years on

Should just point out that the new design didn't cost us anything but we have ownership of it - so any benefits are a bonus, really. I wasn't sure when it first appeared but it has now definitely grown on me. It was my fault that we went back to the town crest in 1992 as I put it on the front cover ...

Re: Another friendly

This one is a bit of a mystery. We have no first team friendly against Bridgwater and I have just received a list of pre-season games from the youth department and there isn't one on there either. A final list of friendlies will be published on the website when details are finalised.
