Incident-packed race today! Surely the title is Hamilton's to lose as Max *surely* has to get a grid penalty for the frankly disgraceful way he drove today (Driver of the Day????? Yer 'avin a larf...)

I've only just come to terms enough with what happened in the final race enough to be able to talk about it on an internet forum :lol:

Don't you miss the days when sport had set rules and the participants had to follow them or be banned/penalised and that was that? Seems almost every sport, in one way or another, has been or is being messed around one way or another, whether it's due to Covid or the people in charge of the sport at national or international level being morons.

Trying to out do each other for ‘excitement’ and ‘talking points’. Eventually it will reset once viewers have had enough and advertising/sponsors withdraw. Who knows when that will be though.

It would appear not. I could see LH retiring now. Who can blame him for doing so after that mess? They need to stop the teams calling up the race director urging them to do this or that during a race.

The whole sport of F1 has just come a complete parody of itself now, apart from the baffling make rules up as you go mantra the grid is just full of young very rich boys who's mummy and daddy can plough mountains of cash into or just buy the team so little Tarquin can have a drive and by no means the best drivers (in the world).

Take Hamilton and Verstappen out of the equation and its just mid field bang average drivers. I can see F1 slowly losing credibility with drivers now and other forms of car racing given more kudos.

No doubt there are better drivers out there than probably half the current F1 grid, and there is much better racing out there in other competitions but nowhere near as much of the glamour that brings in the £££. It's partly why online sim racing is becoming more and more popular with spectators - the racing is actually close, usually pretty good, and easy to find to watch online with little of the circus that goes along with F1, like letting random celebs with no interest in F1 on the grid, or having them wave the chequered flag. A Turkish guy who started out in F1 eSports in 2017 has just actually got an F2 seat for this year, so the level is decent.

And no, Masi hasn't been sacked yet, the FIA review into the whole situation is underway...

F1 is now 90% circus 10% a sport

It's not 90% circus at all. If you are going to attach percentages to your comment, you need to explain how you get to that number.

It's not just about the drivers, it's about the technical aspect too. Be interesting to see how 2022 goes with the new cheaper spec cars. The cars still sound terrible though. So much better when it was the V10.

My thoughts on it that it is an engineering contest where the competing teams try to push the rules to the limit. It has always been the case.

The problem is that to make it interesting for the people who watch it, they have manipulated the rules endeavouring to do it. This came to the fore in the last race which showed F1 for what it s.

For it be to a true sport then all the drivers should drive exactly the same cars and the only difference would be the driver.
