Before todays game I was speaking with an old friend today online after finding each other on facebook many years after last seeing each other in person (he moved to Spain via Scotland) and hasnt been back since.

We got talking about many things mainly football and the time when we made plans to head to Germany to watch a pre season tour around 2001 but he fell ill so we never went, and it got us thinking about overseas tours that the club have done and other overseas teams we have faced, he remembers watching an Icelandic team visit in 1990 and believes a Swedish team came over in the 1970s but other than that we couldn't remember any others.

Obviously there has been the German tours, he seemed to remember possible trips to Spain and Belgium back in the 70s or 80s and a German tour in the late 80s

Does anyone remember much about the clubs overseas adventures from research I have so far found this
1999-2000
28/8/99 Gottingen 05 3-2 Grayson, Watkins, Howarth

2000-01
2/8/00 Gottingen 05 3-0 Grayson x2, Howells
5/8/00 Gottingen 07 2-0 Grayson, McAuley

2001-02
31/7/01 Einbeck 2-1 White x2
2/8/01 Gottingen 05 1-3 McAuley

2005-06
Sparta Gottingen
Hessen Kassel

2006-07
Hannover
Hessen Kassel

2007-08

Hildesham

Does any of the older fans know any of the of the other games the club has played overseas or against overseas teams

I saw us play the Icelandic side in 1990, pretty sure it was Reykjavik, and also a Kuwait Xi in 1977 or 1978, both at Whaddon Road.

Not aware of any overseas trips apart from the pre-season trips to Germany, usually organised by Jasper Cook RIP if I recall.

When we won the Southern League in 1984/85 the players and management went to Belgium as an end of season celebration but I'm sure no football was played!

I seem to remember a piece in a programme a few years ago now about the 1970s and it mentioned a trip to Spain and a game being called off because the other team had many players sent off

And then the global financial crisis happened and 13 years later one thing after another and a club of our size has no chance to go on tour.

Went on the last 3 tours of Germany with half a dozen fellow fans, as the norm had a great time in Germany. Think im right in saying we trained or played at the same training ground where the Mexican side trained for the world cup. The game at Hildesham was set in the mountains, it was a scorching day and we were joined by about 15 other Brits who came to support us, they all lived in the area. After that game a chap who came from Bristol invited us for a drink at his local, as he wanted to introduce us to the owner. This chap had cycled too England for the World Cup in 1966 and cycled from ground to ground for all the German games whilst in England for the World Cup, an amazing fete. They were great tours, wish they were still going on
