is the prediction for Cheltenham to finish in this season on Not The Top 20 Podcast.

Ali and George know their stuff and were complimentary with their analysis of Darrell Clarke's team last season. They do admit that League Two is hard to predict and they did have another CTFC (Crawley) to go down last season, only for them to get promoted so let's hope it's a good omen.

"Know their stuff"
"Predicted promoted Crawley for relegation last season"

Enough said...

A couple of rags I read earlier had us in mid table obscurity, with Newport, Swindon, Morecambe, Grimsby among those fighting the drop. Never seen anyone get every spot right yet.

Bookies seem to expect us to finish mid table too many but there are too many amber alarms for me and I fear we could be in a relegation battle.

Tbh whatever happens this season we HAVE to start with some wins - especially after last season and the long run of not scoring...

We've got quite a favourable start to the season playing sides either likely to struggle or sides expected to be mid-table (going by bookies odds). Given the player overhaul this is a good thing as it gives us time to gel.

I know you can't look too much in to friendlies but Newport's have been pretty woeful

Hereford FC 0 Newport County AFC 0

Kidderminster Harriers 2 Newport County AFC 0

Bristol City FC 2 Newport County AFC 0

Barry Town United 2 Newport County AFC 1

Pontypridd United 0 Newport County AFC 2

Would expect 3 points Saturday.

We've not won on the opening day since 2014 - I'm not expecting anything.

And we got relegated so that's a good omen... Still, new regime, new team, our history should mean nothing in this regard. Hopefully nobody mentions this record to the manager, as it then becomes a "thing."

I think our opening day record has been a thing for as long as I can remember. It was even mentioned when Cotts was in charge. Losing to Dover, Welling and Rochdale in his first three full seasons in charge. :D

We won’t go down. We wont get playoffs either. We’ll come around 14th and I suspect we’ll all be content with that. I’m just looking forward to watching us win a few more matches (like the annual 6 pts against Swindon) and hopefully seeing the club build something promising like that first season under Duff.

It's guess work but it would be interesting to understand they they think we will go from 15th to 23rd.

For a much more precise and clearer indication, keep an eye on this year's prediction league

If you listen, they explain their thinking. In a nutshell, they see a team that wasn’t great last season, that has lost half its defence, including best player (Stubbs), and at that point, had only brought in Angol, Cundy, and Anderson.

They were quite down on the quality of the squad, overly harsh in my opinion. I really don’t think they like Flynn, he was one of the main reasons they had us 24th last season. They have Accy comfortably safe, where as I think they will be much worse than us.

Despite its anti-Town bias, I really like the NTT20 podcast. It is well worth a listen for EFL fans.

"Cheltenham do not inspire much confidence either and might be at risk after a slow summer."

The last line of the Guardian's "predictions."
