If I was GJ I’d be off anyway.
Why would a man who’s achieved so much in his career have to put up with so much discrediting at his time in life.
If it is true, then I wish you a long and happy retirement Gary. Your efforts in 2015/16 will never be forgotten here.

What positive news for a Wednesday morning, I'm sure things will begin to come out now but this was a terrible appointment and has cost us dearly. Let's hope there is a competent replacement who can now come in immediately and assess the entire footballing side of the club and bring back a proposed plan of action for the owner.

I knew we should have held off recording the pod until tonight!!

We're still going to publish it, but some of it has dated markedly in the last 12 hours!!

Good. Was surprised he was ever re-employed by CTFC. I suspect Jack Barthram was surprised, too.

Hopefully this confirms my glass-half-full hope that the radio silence from the club over the past few weeks has been Garlick quietly assessing things in the background and putting plans for change in place.

If you believe MF, he has a good relationship with Garlick. And Garlick has backed him financially. So, my money would be on Flynn staying, but now being able to put his own coaching team in place.

I could be wide of the mark but I'm not expecting changes to the coaching team and Flynn to stay unless results improve significantly. I would think a new Director of Football will come in and assess everything including what needs to change in the dug out and how we prepare for January and the associated costs of those changes.

Although I believe Gary had overstayed his ‘welcome’ - and by that I mean the manner in which he was sacked in 2018 and then ‘apologetically’ re-appointed as DoF in 2024, I absolutely agree that his achievement in getting Cheltenham back into the EFL at first attempt, with a brand new squad, has been undervalued by many of our fans - we could easily have drifted down into being a part-time semi-professional outfit in the lower leagues.

But every dog has his day, and the way football is run nowadays is very different to Gary Johnson’s outdated methods. As football moves forward, and the older generation of football managers and their contacts age off, the time is right for Gary Johnson to go. I wish him well, he has done the honourable thing.

Nobody doubts or forgets the achievements of nine years ago and he received all the plaudits back then. In this time zone, what concerned me, was that in times of apparent extreme austerity, we looked to cut the playing budget instead of looking to see what was providing value in the backroom staff. DOF being one of them. Not too sure what the definition of several and significant are in the CTFC boardroom. I hold the view that if they were as numerous and significant as is being mooted, and impacted the last three transfer windows, we would have a better playing squad than we currently do

I don't take too much notice of the precise wording of farewell statements.
Often they are contain insincere platitudes anyway.

The authors couldn't care less how someone gets on in the future and they stop short of saying that they were absolutely useless and are glad to see the back of them.

Similar to some funeral services really.

Reminds me of a Not the Nine O'clock News sketch where two politicians on a chat show are laying into each other, calling each other all the names under the sun - until one of them has a heart attack and dies...

The main thing is, he's gone.

Interesting though, the board are "disappointed". it's not a "mutual agreement" (ie. we want you to go and you've agreed to be paid off to go), but is sounds like they (I can think of at least one name here, and his predecessor) who wanted him to stay and it's Johnson's decision to leave.

Question for the board: Can you outline the "positive contribution" Johnson made as a Director of Football? There seems to be no coherent strategy around recruitment other than we need to sell a player a season to balance the books. Plenty of incoherent strategy, which is why we have a load of injured right footed centre backs, no pacy centre forward, and seven loans.

It’s probably just the normal ‘nice’ post when someone leaves. Whether they actually mean it remains to be seen.

The right decision for the time but I like others wont forget operation bounce back. If we never got promoted that season we could well still be non league. We have GJ to thank for that. Its by far my fondest memory of a CTFC season in the years I have been following the club.

Best season in my book, was 98-99 by a long long way. No money thrown at it to speak of and a team built up over a period of time

Torquay fan here!

We did warn you! He's been washed since at least a couple years before he left us. He's a decent part of why we're stuck playing Dog and Duck FC right now. Ethon Archer was about the only hidden gem player he found for us during his spell before taking him to you.

Hope you guys turn it around and stay up.

Torquay fans everywhere are like "we warned you" like he was some unknown quantity, completely disregarding the fact he'd already been here and been sacked once before and a large portion of CTFC fans never wanted him anywhere near the club again.

Saw similar comments from Gulls on FB. Bizarre that they think this is an "I told you so!" moment... It'd be like us warning Americans before their last election that Trump is a dangerous moron.

I think it's part of their therapy. Like has been said, we knew! Unless you're Paul Baker or David Bloxham.

I'm sorry but could someone explain why we have parted company with the exmanager who got us back into the football league?

I know what you mean! Was wondering the same about my electric car. I bought a Nissan Leaf 10 years ago and it was great. However, I now find the battery neither charges well or holds its charge. Wife says I can't compare it to what it was 10 years ago, but what would she know

What concerns me is why anyone ever thought it would be a good idea to bring him back when his legacy with the club had already been tarnished.

Indeed - I waited 9 years. I like to think there was at least an internal investigation regarding what happened to Barthram, but I think we all know the answer to that.
