Avoids the opportunity to shower Gary with praise...

Flynny " D of F s....you get some good ones and bad ones. MM and Duffo worked well together I'm told"

WTF. did Paul Furley not ask did you and Gary work well together etc, when he's been spoon fed the obvious question.
Unless it was edited out of course.

Five central defenders injured.
God knows how the team will line up tomorrow?

I think Flynn was perhaps over cooking the CBs
Some are 50/50 but no surprise Cundy and Bennett out
I think he said Bennett was out for a few weeks
Not sure if any of the 6 loans are out

Getting the right Director of Football is going to be crucial they need to do a full assessment and weed out why we can't defend set pieces, likely pick the next manager and plan for January too.

Very noticeable how political Flynn was there, no praise given to GJ but made it obvious things were not working without being disrespectful.

Too right, it’s absolutely vital we get the right person.
Most importantly the new DOF makes sure we don’t sign or re-sign players that spend most of the season injured, or are past, it or were never good enough on the first place, and then given two year contracts. Or under investigation even.

Flynno says he’s given PG a name of someone for the board to consider. Wonder how far that will go?

Funny that this part didn't make it into the club's cut of that interview. See the heavy edit around 1.08.

Agree though, Flynn goes through the job description of a DoF and doesn't get asked where it worked well with Gary.

I've said it before. Just beacause it's fashionable, it does not mean we need a DoF. Nor do we need a CoE. Let's just start with viable squad, please. Too simplimistic?

I'm pretty sure we have done well in the past, albeit in those old fashioned times - BUT with no acronyms involved.

Clearly, it's just me feeling that, as a priority, we do not need to spend more money we do not have in the wrong areas.

I don’t think the board have been very good at making footballing decisions.
Hence a very good DOF is essential.

Sorry I'm the other end of the spectrum on this, we need to professionalize the club, it can't keep running like the dog and duck. The Director of Football is a crucial position and in theory provides consistency from youth to head coach. It also means when we change manager the whole thing doesn't fall apart.

Surely that's a conflict of interest for Flynn to appoint a DoF as it's basically his supervisor. Unsure who is out there but we need someone who has good links with local clubs (Villa, Brum, WBA, Bristol City so we can get loans) but is also up to speed with modern football so it doesn't necessarily need to be someone in the later stages of their working career. It didn't work with GJ because of his personality so that's key too, we need someone who has drive but also will support the manager and coaching objectively.

Thought a bit more about this but Keith Downing could be a great fit in that role. Worked across multiple clubs, knows us, fairly locally based, worked at youth levels as well as first team coaching.

Well thanks to Mark Halliwell on X, we can now see what the job description for the Director of Football is:

“Understand the selection criteria of a Cheltenham Town player”

I am capable of checking if a player has previously played for Mr Flynn, preferably at Newport. I am able to assess if a player is made of china, and if so, be sure to sign them for the club.

It also mentions kit management. I think we know what that means.

Its Steve Kitchen asking the questions not Paul Furley.

What a mess we are in. Likely to be looking for a manager and a DOF by 1700 today

I wonder how many years it'll be now before we get another player who has been at Torquay?! Decades, possibly.

I'll stick to my guns. I think I'm been suggesting this is sh** show. And no. I would never ever go and watch Plymouth. That line qualified by never seeing us win (?) over 25 years (?) - and sorry guys, last time round (a week or so back) I did not bother with the game. What do you need to know? It's where we are at. Not great, we all know.. Come on though...
