Ok we’ve got two fit (but not very good) forwards available for the next couple of months.
We can’t carry on like this, so surely we need to be looking at a free agent forward?
Who’s available?
Who’ll make the important footballing decisions in the next few weeks?
What a mess.
Free agents (again)

I believe despite having a big squad any new manager is going to want to bring in a free agent or two and right now we have to take that gamble. The lack of pace and movement up front is a big worry and the keeper situation needs addressing but that can maybe wait until January.
I would say new DoF and manager will need to move 5-6 players out in the coming weeks to prepare for January, add a free agent or two, then send 2-3 loans back (Bickerstaff, maybe Maz, Archer) so we can bring in 4-5 new players in the window. Both new hires will need to hit the ground running.

Fully agree with this. On the striker we have nobody who can create space for others with movement, stretch a defence. I honestly don't see what Bickerstaff adds, Angol should be no more than cover from the bench, Miller will work hard and score goals but we need better up top.
I presume by moving on you mean paying off their contracts? Nobody wanted them when they came to us and can't think they have done anything to change anybodies mindsRobin wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025, 10:45 I believe despite having a big squad any new manager is going to want to bring in a free agent or two and right now we have to take that gamble. I would send a few to the national league on loan King, Cundy, Sohna, Bakare and Backwell the obvious ones.Ihearye wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025, 12:06I presume by moving on you mean paying off their contracts? The problem here is that the National League clubs need to want to take them.Robin wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025, 12:18I would send a few to the national league on loan King, Cundy, Sohna, Bakare and Backwell the obvious ones.Ihearye wrote: ↑21 Sep 2025, 12:06I presume by moving on you mean paying off their contracts? ^^
There's a hole in my bucket dear Liza
Also we know Cundy is injured and can't / won't play. Sohna and Bakare, don't know how loans work, but do the players have to agree to it?
You seem to be forgetting, Cundy can't play, he has defeated all medical experts and has an unknown injury. AS for Sohna, every non league club must know by now he is not wanted here, so how come non have come asking to have him loaned out?

Part of the many problems is the midfield for which we’ve got hundreds of midfielders. We never see our midfield breaking forward committing defenders as other teams do, freeing up space to release to our strikers. We just lump it forward.

I actually like Tommy Backwell and hopefully he’ll thrive under the new boss.
It’s a clean slate for all of them when the new management team come in so hopefully one or two them can force their way back into the reckoning.

I wonder if they've experimented with AJB alongside Angol in training.
AJB and Archer are the only two we've got who frighten defenders, but they're restricted to playing wide and slinging in hopeful crosses from wing back.
Just a Sunday evening musing so happy to be shot down in flames.

Watching yesterday I couldn't believe we basically got rid of Pett in favour of Young. Pett wasn't playing amazingly for us but he's obviously still good enough.
The crossing is pathetic, but no different to any other aspect of our...ahem, "play."
Based in south Cheshire I thought not Manchester but he also turned down moves before joining Oldham and was not getting regular football here. Either way it's in the past now but we sure his a player like him that is calm, wins tackles and ensure's we retain the ball.
How quickly you forget - that his Mrs is Hannah Blundell, who plays for Man U Women, and she was off with maternity leave most of last season - so the constant trips up and down the M5/M6/M56 must have been tiring for Tom.
I think that they had a kid this year, and the fact that they now both play in the North-West is best for them both I imagine
