He is warmly welcomed, of course (despite my reservations). I hope he is not regretting too much rejecting a large contract at Port Vale.

Was disappointed when he left and reckon we have done waaay better than Vale out of this effective swap.

Lot of silliness over at the Vale forum (daft inaccuracies about us).

I liked Mo a lot, but don't fully believe he'll do that well in L1. Maybe he could play upfront and prosper, but I think on the wing he's a L2 man.

Will have to see how Ash plays. If he's upped his technique levels (which judging by the teams he's played for / stats / success he seems to have done) then we'll have got a better player.

Welcome back Ashley.

Does anyone think we'll be seeing another winger (specialist left winger) come in too? Mark Wright? Luke Rooney? Or is Ash the one that Yatsie was waiting on?

I don't think we'll see any more specialist wide players. There are always options to play other players wide or to change the midfield formation if Vincent or McG are unavailable.

Maybe a young loanee winger as back up?

I'd only expect a loanee centre back and maybe a striker, if the right one comes up. Maybe another young creative central midfielder.

Indeed. They seem to think we are cost cutting and didn't offer deals to Mo or Pack. All of which is false.

I'll be honest, I always thought Ash flattered to deceive when he was first with us. He always had potential but, year after year, he never seemed to progress. I waved him a cheery goodbye when he finally left. Since then, he appears to have done okay playing in a higher division. I'll happily cheer him on now he's back in CTFC colours, but I really hope he's improved and fulfilled some of that potential, maybe even put on a bit of muscle.

Forgive me if my enthusiasm appears a little underwhelming.

I think he and Mo are pretty similar, but Ash is more experienced. At the very least, we have someone that is proven at League 2 level and arguably League 1 level, with the added benefit that he knows the club and the fans.

I think PV fans believe Mo to have been one of our best players - although he had his moments, I think they're going to be in for a shock.

I'm the complete opposite asl (people and their differing opinions, tut tut).

I always felt Ash got a raw deal at the club and when he was let go I honestly thought he was one of our better players at the time. I was very disappointed when he went and was glad to see him start well at Col U before getting yet another injury.

The injuries are in fact my only concern about him coming back.

Glad he's back. Always thought he'd turn into a Nathan Tyson type striker and do well, seems to have never got the opportunity up front and can see him being on the wing here.
Like someone above mentioned, hope he's added a bit of bulk to his greyhound legs!

Which Vale forum are these comments on? Mo one of our best players - they are certainly in for a shock!!

Vincent and Mo are pretty similar, Ashley has much better control but I feel Mo will score more goals, both have a tendency to be headless chickens.

Good signing. Last time he reminded me of Christer Warren - lightweight & completely ineffective. Like Warren, he suddenly turned it around and seemed a different player afterwards, only to then suffer a serious injury. I'm looking forward to see how he's progressed.

As time has gone by and I have thought about it more, the more underwhelmed I become. Looking at it objectively, since he left us he has been very injury prone and has only really starred in one half of a season. The Port Vale fans are not that sorry to see him go, and that is an indicator (especially when you compare with the Shrews' views of Richards and Wright). I can't access my report from the Port Vale game, but I remembered being very unimpressed with him.

This is the devil on my shoulder talking, but I just can't get excited over this. However, I wish him the best of luck and would love to be proved wrong.

I thought Ash was rubbish when he was with us but that was a few years ago so I'll happily give him a second chance to win me over

Ash could hit the byline...
Kaid only saw the byline when taking corners...
Ash occasionally tried to beat his man on the inside (which frustrated me)...
Kaid ALWAYS tried to beat his man on the inside...
Ash always seemed to know where the ball was but occasionally blasted it high and wide...
Kaid rarely knew where the ball was so mostly lost it, on other occasions he shaped to blast it high and wide before missing the ball completely...

Ash is an effective version of Kaid, think Rovers 2011 but most of the time. Not just A game...

I'll even quantify this by saying I was ready to slate Vincent on a reactionary level before thinking back to how I felt at the time of his departure.
