JP is reporting on Twitter Hussey is going to port vale
Room for another one
Hussey going

No way Hussey was one of the best in L1 good L2 player but probably not L1 quality. At 33 he isn't going to get any better either. JP says a number of clubs were interested which makes me think we transfer listed him? Maybe using these funds to fund the Williams transfer. Personally it would make a lot of sense to invest in younger players with re-sale value. See also Brown who is similar maybe we are changing our transfer policy.
Thank you Huss for your efforts and I wish him well for the future.

apparently bid has been accepted
Yesterday Duffo was saying Williams was giving Hussey competition and that Freestone wsnt really a LWB
So has this come out of the blue
We have 2 loans Pollock and Wright and possibly Perry
and we have signed 2 new loans
So it looks likely that Perry will not return
There is supposed to be a 5th signing next week
How many loans do we want to have
The squad is low in numbers so I think we need another 1 or 2 permanent signings
Any significant injuries and we will be out of bodies

Sorry to see him go; trust he will do as well at Port Vale and enjoy a continuance of his successful career. Good Luck to him and his family for the future. He was a class player for us.

Done for pace far too often, especially at Sunderland where he was losing 20m sprints with a 10m head start.
But, still quality and would have been an important part of our squad for the rest of the season.
I can understand if he wants to be guaranteed first team football, which he wouldn’t be now we have Williams.
One for our hall of fame. So many great assists, always part of the L2 team which passed and pressed better than that division has ever seen and of course that free kick and the car park scenes.

Disappointed to see him go. A good player and we were always a worse team when he wasn’t in it.
Must admit to being a bit concerned at the turnover when we’ve enjoyed a good first half season.

If has been offered a longer contract and we get a fee this happens every year.
Really sad to see him go - definitely one of my favourite players of recent years. Agree with all that's said, though, that he's not getting any younger and the lure of a decent contract at a level where he could likely excel is a no-brainer for him. If we get any sort of fee for him, it must be a no-brainer for us, too.

Sad to see a modern day legend go without the chance to say goodbye. That’s the sentimentalist in me.
But a shame we can’t have the competition in the squad with Williams arriving.
Also, if Vassell’s words are true about the positive dressing room, then one must wonder how much the likes of Hussey are part and parcel of that fabric and how much of a blow it will be to squad morale.
If he’s valued by the manager, it’s alarming that he’s leaving halfway through a relegation fight. Especially if the likes of May and Boyle are in similar situations.

This crossed my mind as well, like Tozer he's been an experienced player in that group who has done so well over the past few years. Feel like it'll be a big loss off the pitchBroadway Brian wrote: ↑07 Jan 2022, 21:05 ...then one must wonder how much the likes of Hussey are part and parcel of that fabric and how much of a blow it will be to squad morale.
Gutted. He's been probably my favourite player over the last couple of seasons but he hasn't been at his best this season, which could well be his age catching up with him. His crosses and set plays have been steadily getting worse. He'll always be the scorer of the goal that confirmed League One promotion.
In hindsight, it makes more sense now why we have paid a fee for Williams for 2.5 years. MD wants to improve the "weaker" positions where possible and has paid and committed to a younger, hopefully fitter, LWB. Huss must have been one of thr higher wages as well. I assume we are getting some kind of fee as he had another 1.5yrs.
The amount of movement already been this window shows that MD and Mickey Moore have been eyeing these changes up and getting things in place for a while.

Interesting to see what Hussey wants to do.
How long is left on his contract here?

We saw it in real time today
Great in the first half. He's a good player, better class than than rest of the club
Second half he didn't get anywhere near the winger and we conceded directly because he didn't get close.
He'd be the best left wing back EVER in the conference. But he's tired and their goal today we embarrassing. Either get tight or drop off...don't ignore it

Been my favourite player over the last few seasons so would be gutted to see him go.
After today’s game you have to think Huss still has lots to give but I would like to see him play on the left of the back 3. Would give us balance and he could still bring the ball out like Boyle does from that position. He’s tall enough for a cb and he wouldn’t have to run up and down the pitch all day.

^^This non existent in the 2nd half and there wasn't much from Burton to worry him either.Ben version 4:0 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2022, 21:08 We saw it in real time today

So whats the story anyway? Does Hussey want to leave? Duff wants him to stay but the club have accepted an offer. Duff's ,mantra is if a player doesn't want to be here then off you go. All a bit awkward isnt it.
Can only assume Vale have made an offer we can't refuse given his age, and that we're allowing him to explore it seeing as he's not an automatic starter any more.longmover wrote: ↑08 Jan 2022, 23:26^^This non existent in the 2nd half and there wasn't much from Burton to worry him either.Ben version 4:0 wrote: ↑08 Jan 2022, 21:08 We saw it in real time today

Would be a real shame if he left though, bordering on legend status for us.

Only a big pay rise could compensate for a longer commute to the Potteries.
He's just turned 33 last week and has 1.5yrs left on his contract here. He will be 34.5 when that contract ends and most likely would just be a bench warmer by that stage, assuming Williams is what we hope he will be. He may even take a little pay cut if offered a 2.5 year deal because it's extremely doubtful we would renew or he would get another league club in summer 2023. If Vale get promoted then they will be, with all due respect to a player that has been a very good servant to our club, stuck with an ageing Hussey that has only just about been good enough for League One this season.horlickfanclub wrote: ↑10 Jan 2022, 15:58 Only a big pay rise could compensate for a longer commute to the Potteries.
If MD honestly wanted to keep Hussey, then I'm assuming the funds we receive for him can be put back into finding another young LB that can push Williams over the next couple of seasons.
He served us well in league 2 and was exceptional in going fwd, but as you progress up the leagues pace is a must, and Chris was finding it difficult in going past defenders, ans keeping up with forwards in league one.
The move to PV suites both parties, we receive a fee for a 33yo and Vale obtain a player who is a good player at league 2 level, and with his style of play will do well at Vale, theyve always used width in the way they play. Thanks Chris and best of luck
