I suspect he is one of those "Fit and Proper businessman" that seem especially attracted to Football and who now involved in Rugby Union.

Reading the article it would appear to be a way of taking money out of a business, loading it with debt and then allow it to fail leaving a long list of creditors who are not to get paid, ensuring there is no trail to follow to where the money has gone.

One thing I've never got my head around is the salaries for players in the prem being as high as they are, there's one pro league in England. with teams playing nine home (league games) this season. With two northern based teams with average gates of 5500 and 4500 and an average attendance for the whole league of 12800.

"The average salary of a fly-half in the Premiership is £175,679 with centre (£167,779) and lock (£158,617) making up the top three best-paid positions. On average, scrum-halves (£117,912) and hookers (£113,115)"

and there's fifteen players on the pitch for one team, never mind the army of coaches and backroom staff.

It's less now, but a few years ago the clubs received £25.5m each per season from the RFU via sponsorship deals, TV rights, etc, so that is probably where most of it comes from. It reduced during Covid, of course. No idea what it is currently but I assume it's still multiple millions. And then you've got the clubs individual sponsorship deals as well.
The wage cap in 21/22 was £5m.

interesting, some of these teams can’t be earning much from match day
Gloucester is something like £750,000 per home match I believe.
