Have we had a manager leave the club for another club in the same league before Duff did?

Yes John Ward left after about two months into the 2007/08 season for Carlisle, who were probably a bigger club than us back then. Like Duffo, he realised he’d hit the ceiling with us.
On a similar note, the only manager I recall leaving just before the new season started was Lindsay Parsons who went to Gillingham to be assistant to Tony Pulis in 1995.

Always the risk in L1. There will always be a bunch of bigger teams with much more potential than us.
