A 4-0 win with 2 late goals from Lloyd and Sercombe adding to first half goals from Zac Guinan and Ben Williams.

Nice win, but the same way defeats in training sessions are meaningless, so are wins. More importantly, I hope the important stuff - player fitness and numbers - were where Wade wants them to be at this stage.

Meaningless, except for when you lose the first to a part time team, then lose the next, and the next, and then can't buy a win because confidence is at rock bottom. We have been there before.

Not saying we were "shite",but just going throught the "motions" as per Wade`s pre match comments.

If you think there is a link between pre-season results and the season results.

I would say the results are symptom of poor performances and players not hitting numbers.

To parallel Duff, if the players focus on performances then results take care of themselves.

That’s why during the last season, Duff was more worried about games where we performed badly even if we won or lost, than games where we lost but performed at the levels needed.

Of course there is a link if you lose and then keep on losing - it's the sign of a shite team. However, a 4-0 win when you're only going through the motions is the sign of decent foundations. I remember a few years ago in pre-season we didn't win against some amateur teams and then lost to the League teams and everyone on here was fearing the worst and, lo and behold, it was a c!#p season. Yes, pre-season results mean very little, but it doesn't hurt to get a few easy victories and a bit of confidence under the players belts - especially if a striker starts finding the net and carries on.

If going through the motions means players are not focusing on team shape, pressing positions, etc then that is not something we want to carry on in to the season.
