Worst - Easah Suliman
Best - Richard Keogh/Brooker they kept us up.
I won't count players we had on loan and took permanently like McCann, Wilson, Pack or Gillespie.

When we had the triple loan from Bristol City of Taylor Moore, Freddie Hinds & Joe Morrell, I was expecting Hinds to do well (didn’t really do much) but it was Morrell who I thought was the clear standout and he’s done ok since too!

Best - Luke Garbutt. A class apart for us. Was convinced he’d become an Everton regular. 13 years later he returns to us with Salford a shadow of that talented full back.
Worst - John Marquis. Rubbish for us. Thought he’d be heading into National League at best. Has gone on the score shedloads in a really successful lower league career.
Joe Rodon - looked absolutely dreadful for us repeatedly, and got hauled off at half time in his last game at home vs Coventry.
Subsequently gone on to play for Wales in a Euros and a World Cup, and a regular now for Leeds after admittedly a misstep at Tottenham.
There were a lot of poor loans under Gary Johnson's reign but there were clearly some, such as Rodon, who had great potential but came a bit too soon here and into mens football. You could make the same argument about the young lad Micky Moore brought here from Villa, didn't really pull up trees but went to Norwich on loan the following season and then sold to Burnley for £15 million. It shows to me that timing is just as important as potential.

I don’t think I’ve seen Martin Allen mentioned yet. Just look at the list of loans he brought in and I expect half of them would be on the list of worst.
Best: The Boy Wright. Came in, made our attack click, helped fire us to a football league title.

In recent years i'd go for Wright, Doyle-Hayes and Caleb Taylor. Azaz was pretty good too. I can't think of a decent loan striker off the top of my head.
Special mention for Owen Bevan last year, I thought he looked really good just before he got that injury.
The list of bad is too long to go through, to be honest!

If I recall Mark Yates signed a few players on loan, towards the end of his time as manager, who hardly played, and it was felt at the time they were no better than the young lads of our own who weren’t getting an opportunity, one was a midfielder from Swansea I think.
Also Graham Alner’s last signing only played a couple of games, first was in a 0-4 defeat at home to Crewe on Boxing Day in 2002. Both soon departed after that.

Dave has been a great addition, he's slotted in really nicely I think.
Love the pod, my only improvement suggestion would be for it to come out earlier so I've got more time to listen before the Saturday game!
I know you all fit it in where you can and I'm sure it's uploaded as soon as it can be.
Keep up the great work, the loans lists and international 11s were great listens.

It's something we're going to be working on from the summer. We like to record on a Tuesday unless there's a Tuesday game. Unfortunately, Wednesdays are a no-go in the winter, so that leaves Thursday evenings when we play on a Tuesday.
But as I said, it is something we're aware of as an issue and something we will be looking to improve going forward.
