They can't be bothered to respond to the 3rd largest shareholder of the club - the largest shareholder that is a board member.

Where's their respect?

Good to have the pod back. Not a huge fan of Tommy Robinson supporters but I'll give the new guest the benefit of the doubt.

The “everyone says” “people moan” generalisation of our entire fan base is wearing very thin after the last couple of pods.

Other than that, good to see it back.

In fairness to the guys, everyone generalises too much.

Now come on Jim - what's supporting Tommy Three Names got to do with Cheltenham Town? We all have our blind spots - including me - but if a CTFC supporter wants to come either on here or on the Podcast in good faith and talk about the team/management/supporters then I've got no problem with it, whatever their background or political leanings.

I'm sure that Si and the others run a tight ship and have a zero tolerance approach when it comes to abuse or derogatory points of view - and it's always good to have new opinions on a podcast.

Edit: Now I've got to listen to the Podcast and see what zingers our new guest comes up with!

Those of us of a certain vintage will remember when the far right were common place in football grounds and actively recruited there back in the 80s.

It’s not unreasonable to be concerned about potential for boundaries between football and far right extremism becoming blurred. Thankfully we haven’t seen any of this at Whaddon rd as far as I know, and long may that continue.

Very good point Jerry - all of the stories of the NF recruiting outside football grounds/monkey chants and banana throwing was a bit before my time. TBH my first recollection of that sort of thing was on the telly in '92 when QPR played Man U at Old Trafford when Dennis Bailey (ex-CTFC of course!) scored a hattrick, and the Stretford End gave him all sorts of abuse.

As you say we have to stay vigilant to these sorts of things - especially when there has been unrest around the country recently - but I've been to WR and several other grounds and as an Asian man I've never faced any problems (other than being a bit down at getting tonked every so often  )

Si, you asked the question "Why did Keena get such backing from the fans?" and I don't think you came to a conclusion.

I believe it was the Sheffield Wednesday goal. One of the very few times there's been a crowd surge after a goal in the PRE that I've experienced. The two blokes next to me ended up on the floor. Keena was in the corner with Block 1 on the pitch, marching off triumphant, draped in the Irish tricolour. It was an epic moment. More goals followed that season and it all looked rosy. We all wanted to recreate that feeling, because you don't get them often in football and we spent the next year willing it to happen.

I think you make a good point.

It's one of those things we've just never got to the bottom of, but your point about the Sheffield Wednesday goal is a very good one I think.

I just wish we could see more of it rather than jumping on player's backs (as I fear will happen if we don't get a good start).

Those ten games of Keena being on fire with May was, for me, the best and most exciting and enjoyable run of ten games since Holman and Wright steamrollered all comers on the Champions march.

The Keena and Holman stories are both very similar. Both joining mid-season, both being a key part of the most enjoyable and unstoppable teams seen for many years, with memorable moments like Keena vs Sheff Wed and the FGR annihilation.

Both players never recaptured the golden form, whether for physical or psychological reasons. But for me, both go down as two of the best strikers we have had based on the periods where they tore up their respective divisions and looked the best in those divisions. Fantastic memories and football fans love fantastic memories.

Genuine question, how many games do you have to perform in to go on your list of best strikers? Best strikers are able to reproduce over an extended period surely. Not a couple of landfills of games? Getting dropped seemed to have no impact on him, there seemed no hunger or desire to prove his doubters wrong. Why he was supported so much during last season is way beyond me. He was abysmal end of.
The irony of NI fans singing Will Griggs on fire and CTFC fans singing Keena on fire was never lost on me, because neither ever were.

Genuine answer to your first question is there is no set number of games. It’s vibes.

For me personally, that section of the season - Shefd Wed, FGR, Peterborough, Wycombe and all that - will be remembered for a long time. And Keena’s passes, goals, and celebrations will always be a key part of that memory.

Good stuff, just listening now. Question: what's happened to the intro music? Not sure if you know Si, probably one for Tom, just feels a bit odd launching straight in without the tune at the start.

I'll ask the question Jim. I noticed it on the one last week, but Tom sorts all of it to be honest. I just sit and ramble on for an hour or so about Cheltenham. It's very cathartic :D

EDIT - Turns out he is having issues with the platform we use. Looking to get it resolved over the next few weeks

Good point about the teams-going-to-the-wrong-ends saga, Si. I think you might be right that the Newport keeper just broke away from the handshakes and went to the wrong end, and everybody just went along with it.

I doubt it would have been allowed to happen with Southwood, Sercs, Long et al on the pitch, but with a bunch of new players I can totally see how we acquiesed.

It seemed to me as if we deliberately set out at that end, as if the new manager didn't want Newport shooting towards their full stand of away support in the second half on the opening day.
