Is the other name Aaron Pressley or someone else? Him and Taylor would be excellent additions. Not reading too much into Taylors record this season given he's been playing for a struggling side under 3 or 4 different managers.
Taylor has a track record of scoring goals in league one as I hinted at yesterday but the past eighteen months his form has tailed off dramatically. FGR links will clearly upset some but he's apparently desperate to get out from the circus on the hill and Clarke knows him well so hopefully he can get him firing.
I don't think anyone would be upset by the fact he's been at FGR. Maybe that he hasn't been banging them in in League Two. It would make a nice change for us to take one of theirs, and a player leaving them for us will see him as a hero
Matt Taylor was a very good player at this level for Bristol Rovers and Oxford but sadly I think his best days are behind him.
We’ll see.
Another possibility is/was Wes McDonald who did well for DC at Walsall. Played against us wide left when we won 2-1 up there four years ago. He’s currently a free agent.

There are two holdups I have on Taylor, but I very much trust DC at the moment.
1. Forget FGR, he is struggling to get into the starting lineup at a team rock bottom of the Football League.
2. Looking at how he did for Vale last season (4 goals in 14 games) and the start of the season with FGR, the overwhelming feeling from their fans is that his legs might have gone. This isn't the Matty Taylor of 6/7 years ago banging in goals at this level.
As I said, I'm very much in the "In DC I Trust" camp, and I will give any Cheltenham player my full support. But I am a little sceptical by this signing if it goes through.

Interesting times. We came into the window with 3 hi-pressing, aggressive forwards, running the channels all day and never giving the oppo defence chance for breath.
Sounds like we’ll have a significantly different make-up to our forward line by the close of the window.
We’ve witnessed the mid-match drop-off when AK and/or NBO enter the fray.
Big work for DC to get a style / formation to be successful with the new personnel.

Feels like it. I sincerely hope we also buy industrial amounts of cotton wool for Sercs and Lloyd before the window closes.

The Matty Taylor signing would seem to me to be as a guy to bring on for the last 20-25 minutes to poach us a goal (or win us a dodgy pen) than a new no 9 to start games. Surprised we would be paying a fee for him though, is the haggling definitely over our proposed fee or Taylor negociating a payoff from FGR?

I agreed until you mentioned us winning a penalty. Utter fantasy.Warwickshire Robin wrote: ↑30 Jan 2024, 15:49The Matty Taylor signing would seem to me to be as a guy to bring on for the last 20-25 minutes to poach us a goal (or win us a dodgy pen) than a new no 9 to start games. A cameo role late on with more guile and experience to introduce than we’re currently able to do - that makes sense.
We need some legs and energy in the next one though I’d say.
Could be either I guess, heard FGR were being difficult and player was keen to leave, I assumed it was a fee.Warwickshire Robin wrote: ↑30 Jan 2024, 15:49The Matty Taylor signing would seem to me to be as a guy to bring on for the last 20-25 minutes to poach us a goal (or win us a dodgy pen) than a new no 9 to start games. Think WR was referring to the dodgy penalty (he won) that was awarded to Oxford UtdBroadway Brian wrote:I agreed until you mentioned us winning a penalty. I hope that a gamble on a player who struggles to get into the worst team in the EFL, pays off.
I sincerely hope that the title 'Top Target', actually means the top target as of 30/01/2024 and not , he was always our top target
If it happens wish him every success, but .........

Apologies BB. Deep breaths and repeat 'In Darrell we trust' five times, that should do the trick!!Broadway Brian wrote: ↑30 Jan 2024, 16:07I know but it was too soon after SaturdayMalabus wrote: ↑30 Jan 2024, 16:03Think WR was referring to the dodgy penalty (he won) that was awarded to Oxford UtdBroadway Brian wrote:

A Forest Green Rovers player that I always admired was Christian Doidge. Only 31. Currently at Hibernian. Current salary £2,400 pw.
Exeter forum saying they bid 200k for Elvis and it was rejected so unlikely we are going to gazump that. Are we?
Sure we have 400k burning a hole plus the shareholder gift. What else are we going to spend it on. Apart from relegation consolation drinks1985CTFC wrote: ↑30 Jan 2024, 21:10Exeter forum saying they bid 200k for Elvis and it was rejected so unlikely we are going to gazump that. Are we?

Lloyd is going to struggle to play with the level of intensity he's shown for the remainder of the season.
We need legs who can press and chase down things down, Keena is a goalscorer and our best finisher but his style does not suit the way we are trying to play.
