This completely passed me by at the time (2009ish).
The player at the heart of match fixing at Bromley and a host of other teams in the National League (Conference as was) at the time.
The scale and extent is staggering, including the number of teams, the behaviour of the organised syndicate gangs, and the levels of betting on some of the games. Interesting to hear how they were eventually tracked and caught.

The amount of influence betting companies have in sport in this country and and politicians that lobby for them.
That's why the finger is never ever pointed at them.
as always, done to money.

Not sure you can blame the bookies. It’s only because of their investigations and analytics that match fixing gets caught.
Having bets on people being booked, time of first yellow card, first throw in, time of first corner can all be manipulated easily by one player.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 07:52Not sure you can blame the bookies. They can, but it’s the fault of the criminals (including the player) not the bookies.Red Duke wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 19:40Having bets on people being booked, time of first yellow card, first throw in, time of first corner can all be manipulated easily by one player.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 07:52Not sure you can blame the bookies. It seems that particular form of theft has accelerated with the advent of self check-outs at supermarkets. It comes down to these big companies thinking that it would save on labour costs but not realising they are losing more through theft.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑25 Aug 2024, 11:21So close all shops to avoid the temptation of shop lifting?Red Duke wrote: ↑25 Aug 2024, 10:07Do away with the temptation, the problem is solved.RegencyCheltenhamSpa wrote: ↑24 Aug 2024, 20:28

Maybe if there were more severe consequences for shop theft, it would be curbed.
