when was the last CTFC player to smack one (and not bounce before it goes in) from outside the box?

The first that comes to mind is Elliott Bonds against Cambridge in 22/23.

Sercs floated one from outside the box against Cambridge at home last season to secure our first win of the season.

After that, I'm struggling.

May’s second goal at Peterborough to put us 0-3 up.

Dictionary definition of screamer.

Bonds also against Sunderland. Think there might have been a nick on that one though, that looped it up into the top corner.

Mr May scored a couple from outside the box that flew in without bouncing, but that Peterborough one was probably the best. Are free kicks included because he had at least one of those, from memory. His hat-trick goal at Wycombe in the 5-5 was from outside the box and didn't bounce, but was a lob rather than a screamer. We definitely seem to have more scored against us.

Bonds goal definitely took a deflection but it was a fine strike. He also got a screamer away at Cambridge I recall. Shame he didn’t get more like that.

No-one seems to have passed this particular memo on to our opponents, as we seem to concede more than our fair share.

Max Bird from Derby was an impressive one to be on the receiving end of in recent seasons.

May’s second v Peterborough screamed so loudly. Couldn’t agree more.

I always felt Southwood's biggest weakness was shots from 20-25 yards. He got beat by some right belters.

Barnsley had their own goal of the season comp in their 4-0 win against us.

Does Larrys against Argyll (I think) count

Probably not…..that was in 1999, so 25 years ago!
But what a night that was. That whole period was just wonderful, wasn’t it :)

I bet our St Lucian international can score a better worldie than their Guyanan international.

Argyle, you mean, unless there was a Scottish Highlands league game he played in.

In my personal view it wouldn’t count as a screamer because it was looping and dipping. For me, a screamer keeps rising all the way from being struck into the top of the net. A straight arrow on an upwards rising trajectory.

For the same reason I don’t think all of Bonds’ strikes count either as they definitely had a touch of the loop and dip about ‘em.

I remember Archie hitting an absolute belter from well outside the area into the top corner of the away end on the stroke of half-time. May have been against Bournemouth, not sure. That was still rising as it hit the net.

Random one but I remember Jermaine McGlashan hitting a 25 yard riser into the top corner. Couldn't tell you what game though.

McCann must surely have pinged one or two in other than free kicks, but I can't think of any off the top of my head right now. I'm sure one of you can!

Top of the net versus Fulham was one of his best, but again, a bit of dip and swerve rather than a pure screamer.

Mansfield away in the 5-0 on the final day in 05-06. Those were the days!

Agree. And not just 25 yarders. Wycombe's second back in February was a fine, breakaway goal, but Garath McCleary should not be scoring from a tight angle on the wide right, running away from goal. Maybe I'm particularly annoyed because I was right behind it in block 2, but Southwood got that all wrong. He got nowhere near it.

Here's three from, the otherwise god-awful, 2014-15:

Matt Richards at Cambridge
Matt Richards v Swindon (YES!)
Zack Kotwica at Mansfield

And a mention in dispatches fro Joe Hanks for the goal at Bury. Probably doesn't meet the definition of a screamer, but fine all the same.

Of course! I would describe that as more of an absolute shitpinger on the volley into the top left corner, than a screamer, personally. 1min 35 in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=deskt ... b_imp_woyt

Hate these type of articles from the Beeb - "the screamer is dying out" - cue a screamer from Duran for Villa - " Long live the screamer"😂

I remember a few months ago, they had an article on Rivaldo's playing history - they mentioned the overhead kick for Barca vs. Valencia but were strangely silent on his ridiculous dive against Turkey in 2002🤔

Haven't seen many screamers - Alfie's second vs. Peterborough or Shepherd's left foot volley vs. Port Vale weren't outlandish or anything but were important in context of the league. Hopefully next time I'm at WR I can report one😂
