Goalkeepers wasting time - new law.

Talk about other football teams at all levels. AND ANY Glos City related threads, even if talking about the groundsharing.

Listening to the old wireless (5Live) on Sunday. Where the commentators mentioned that if the keeper holds on to the ball for more than 6 seconds then a corner is awarded. This will be a new law, next season?

Anyone hear similar?

I heard the new law is going to be trialled at U23 level, I think, and a corner would be awarded if the keeper holds on to the ball for 10+ seconds.

As far as I know, the 6-second rule is still in the laws but never implemented. I expect any new rule will also be slowly phased out and forgotten about 2-3 months after the start of a new season, like the extra added on time was last season.

And booking players for, say, delaying free kicks. That lasted about 3 games.

As usual, enforcement of existing laws is needed, not new ones.

I respectfully disagree... It's still clearly happening at all levels of the game that I've been watching. What's changed is that players now understand better that they can't do it and have adjusted their actions, accordingly - hence far fewer bookings than in the first three games. Sneaky, eh? Bit like avoiding points on your license by obeying speed restrictions.

Yes, and a Notts County player got booked for blocking a free-kick on Sunday.

I maintain that the focus on it has lapsed and, as often, the law is applied to varying degrees depending on the leniency of the ref.

That's the case for every Law, though? 'Soft' fouls that are routinely given on the halfway line might not be given in exactly the same circumstances if they occur inside the penalty area.

Now approved starting this summer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/ar ... qjr1n27dgo

Could be career-ending for the likes of Southwood and Pickford...

I still expect it to be quietly phased out a few months into the season.
