I loved Pelly when he was here before and it was clear that the dressing room was a happy place in his time at the club. Is he what we need on the pitch though? I'm not convinced to be honest. Midfield is the one place we actually look well stocked in Pett, Bonds and Kinsella.
Not a ball winner again we have been weak in midfield for ages.

It does seem quite a remarkable direction to go in. Hope it works out but there is a lot of work to do with all of the outgoing players/ staff.

No, but a lot of people on social media take JP as official these days. So when he said Pell had passed his medical on Monday they've decided that's deal done.

Not that I don't believe JP, I do, but people need to remember that he is a journalist who posts information given to him by insiders at the club, or by sources outside, so is not an official spokesperson.

Add to this I believe the Transfer Window only officially opens today so I assume nothing official can be announced until now? Also, not sure how it all works around Free Agents as I think players contracts run until end of June so maybe this is why no photo at seasons holding the scarf yet?!

I don't buy that - many clubs have announced signings already.

interesting that people seem to think he is some sort of official spokesperson for the club, very interesting ;)

Quote from an article in the Manchester Evening News:-

"Several summer transfers have been agreed upon, including Tottenham Hotspur's decision to take Timo Werner on loan again. Neither Manchester United or Manchester City have agreed any deals yet, however, any potential moves cannot become official until the transfer window opens.

While clubs can announce signings at any time, they are not permitted to register players outside of the transfer windows. Unregistered players are not eligible to participate in competitive matches for their teams.

This rule also applies to free agents, such as Tosin Adarabioyo, who will not officially become a Chelsea player until July 1, the day after his contract with Fulham ends."

So I guess some choose to make the announcements before they are official and some don't!

I wasn't disputing that the transfer window opened today. I just don't buy it as an excuse for why we've not announced anyone.

In recent years it's never stopped us.

Swear to God I saw JP post Pell had passed his medical and had SIGNED a two year contract.

Can't blame people for assuming he's had confirmation himself before posting something so certain.

Well, you can.

Just because JP says it, doesn't make it official. He's not an official of the club.

I agree with you, I don't think (in fact I know) JP wouldn't post such a thing without being certain. But even then, until it's confirmed by the club, it's not official.

I spoke to someone at the club a while back about this and their answer has always stuck with me.
Jon generally says someone is "set to sign" or "expected to move", whereas the club has to wait until it's all done, signed and sealed, all t's crossed and it's dotted, and that's how he's able to announce things first.

Does seem a longer delay than usual between Jon's posts and the actual announcements this summer though.

It's not official until Robin adds it to his summer transfer post. 😉

I half get the feeling the club are trying to wait to announce several new signings at once, or on the same day, because they know a certain section of the fanbase will go potty if they don't get one or two younger faces in as well and just officially announce 32 year old ex-Chelt, 33 year old ex-Newport, etc, etc.

don't mind too much about the age of the other faces (too much), as long as they are not
> ex Torquay
> ex Newport
> CTFC OLD boys

It would take some convincing to get me to believe the best out there fall into those categories. Some might, but ....... Would be nice to see we have actually been out scouting and making offers as the result of previous work

The club's WhatsApp has just teased the Pell announcement. At least, I assume so, a pic of someone who looks lanky holding a CTFC scarf with the caption "The Return"

Pell now announced. Interestingly the Glos Live article also says that Aaron Jarvis has now decided to join Yeovil instead.

It also says "It is understood that Cheltenham withdrew their interest in the former Torquay United player following Michael Flynn's arrival as manager."
