Could be a blessing. There's clearly a sickness bug going through the squad, so another week to get clear of that might be no bad thing.
I note the announcement on the official says the covers were put on yesterday morning. As we had a hard frost overnight Wednesday/Thursday wasn’t that a little too late?
My garden which faces north was frozen when I woke up yesterday morning. Only the few parts that got a touch of sunshine thawed during daylight. Therefore the Hazlewoods end would already have been frozen.
Just sayin’ like.

I’m struggling to think of any. It seems that you can’t put them on for more than 2 days or it wrecks the grass. Basically, they seem to protect against very specific circumstances of 1 night’s frost going down to minus 1 or 2, which then rises to above zero by mid-morning.

Another thought occurred to me - do we lose any TV money with the postponement?

I think I remember reading before that frost covers can only stay down for a short period (maximum three days?) otherwise it damages the grass. Which means Weds afternoon or thereabouts would have been the earliest they could put them down.Fuller wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 16:00 I note the announcement on the official says the covers were put on yesterday morning. Which means that if they’d been put down Wednesday afternoon, when it wasn’t freezing, rather Thursday morning after we’d had the hard overnight frost, then the game would probably have gone ahead tomorrow.Jerry St Clair wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 18:57I think I remember reading before that frost covers can only stay down for a short period (maximum three days?) otherwise it damages the grass. I'm no expert but they do look like a roll of black bin bags from Poundland that have been spread over the pitch.Fuller wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 19:13Which means that if they’d been put down Wednesday afternoon, when it wasn’t freezing, rather Thursday morning after we’d had the hard overnight frost, then the game would probably have gone ahead tomorrow.Jerry St Clair wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 18:57I think I remember reading before that frost covers can only stay down for a short period (maximum three days?) otherwise it damages the grass. Best I admit I've said that partly in jest as I think the 500 club may have purchased them....sorry Steve.
It would be interesting to know if it was just the away end that was frozen or all the pitch
How much would a poly tent or hearing pads cost.
I suspect we only need them once or twice a season so no viable
Large bubble rolls but the someone would pop them
Also pitch is fine but approaches and carpark noy so endes up as H and S
We may have dodged a bullet anyway as we can do without Walsall turning up on top form
I must hide the credit cards and not be forced to go bargain hunting
Enjoy the day off Now where is that whisky

We bought them on the recommendation of Match of the Day, after the Newcastle FA Cup game. They have saved games but once the temperature reaches minus 3 the frost will penetrate through the sheets They cost 8k all those years agopaperboy wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 19:21I'm no expert but they do look like a roll of black bin bags from Poundland that have been spread over the pitch.Fuller wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 19:13Which means that if they’d been put down Wednesday afternoon, when it wasn’t freezing, rather Thursday morning after we’d had the hard overnight frost, then the game would probably have gone ahead tomorrow.Jerry St Clair wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 18:57

The New Lawn has passed a pitch inspection so, if you want a football fix, FGR v Chorley is on.
And if you can't stomach that, Gloucester play Taunton at home.Jerry St Clair wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 09:24 The New Lawn has passed a pitch inspection so, if you want a football fix, FGR v Chorley is on.
...and a chance to see Joe Hanks, Kevin Dawson ( if fit obviously) and best of all Tom Smith's red mullet up close!Artemis wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 09:44And if you can't stomach that, Gloucester play Taunton at home.Jerry St Clair wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 09:24 The New Lawn has passed a pitch inspection so, if you want a football fix, FGR v Chorley is on.

Shall I put you down as a maybe then?
fine example of an oxymoronJerry St Clair wrote: ↑04 Jan 2025, 09:24 The New Lawn has passed a pitch inspection so, if you want a football fix, FGR v Chorley is on.
not knocking the purchase, but you would have to wonder about covers that only protected to -3shevates wrote: ↑03 Jan 2025, 20:21We bought them on the recommendation of Match of the Day, after the Newcastle FA Cup game. Not knocking your question, but this was back in 2006, so I’m sure things have moved on since then.Ihearye wrote:not knocking the purchase, but you would have to wonder about covers that only protected to -3
